Camelot is ready for the stage tomorrow night, Saturday night, and Sunday afternoon. I hate to use this week’s article as an advertisement, but since my life has been the musical for the last 2 months, I feel like it would be a waste if I didn’t try to sell it a little. So here I go.
For everyone who may not know the story of Camelot, it is not quite what Disney depicts in The Sword in the Stone. While King Arthur is the frontrunner armed with Excalibur, he isn’t quite living the “glamorous” life of a medieval king. His wife Guinevere, whom he originally married to bring peace to his kingdom, has wandering eyes. Her eyes land on Lancelot, one of Arthur’s best knights of the roundtable. It’s a love triangle that can only be found in a classic musical. Throughout the theme of love and loss there are also jousts, nymphs, wizards and the forest queen and her fairies adding to the mischief. Camelot has a twist in the plotline for everyone.
The amount of work that goes into a musical is quite amazing. In a previous article I outlined all of the behind the scenes parts of the production, including the pit, the costumers, the tech crew and the set builders. Then there are the countless hours put in by the directors, the cast and everyone else involved. It’s crazy, but somehow we all managed to pull it off. So please, if you have time and an extra $7 this weekend, stop by the high school and take a trip to Camelot. We’d all love the support and I guarantee you will find something that you like. |
