Spring has sprung

We were spoiled a bit last weekend with a sip of summer. I am calling it foreshadowing and embracing spring now. I know it’s only the second week in March and spring doesn’t officially start until next Friday, but just the thought of warmer weather and warm breezes carrying the smell of freshly cut grass brightens my mood.
Spring is an interesting time for high school students. We’re all leaning towards summer and it seems like those few short months just fly by on those pleasant breezes. Since I don’t play a school sport, I see it merely as a pleasurable state of limbo where I don’t have much to do and enjoy not doing it. The athletes, however, focus on getting in shape and improving their performance in the arena of their choice, all in the pursuit of fun, of course. Whichever way you see spring, its enjoyable for all.
In my mind, spring is a time of revitalization. Spring cleaning is one of my favorite things, as weird as that sounds, and the warmer weather inspires afternoon walks and more time outside soaking in some vitamin D. With these feelings floating around everyone, I see it as a perfect time to reinvent those New Year’s resolutions. Right at the beginning of January, I talked about resolutions and now I’m bringing them up again, not in hopes of repeating an article without anyone noticing, but to visit the idea of reinventing yourself and your goals.
I don’t really agree with the idea of resolutions in the middle of winter. Yes, I know, it’s the beginning of a new year and a new you, but really, who is inspired and motivated when you have to put on a parka that makes you look like the Stay-Puft Marshmallow Man from Ghostbusters just to get the mail? Not me.
Spring is the time of inspiration, of rebirth, of reinvention, so why not take advantage of it? Students tend to let their grades slip as June approaches; if you are a student and reading this, don’t let that happen! Work on your math outside and take in the fresh air. Same with adults, use the longer, warmer days to fit in that exercise that you told yourself you were going to start in January (no one exercises in the winter anyway). Trust me, it’s much easier now to try new things or improve yourself than it was when it was dismal and cold. Spring is Mother Earth’s way of nudging you off the couch and into the garden or yard, or onto the sports field. Listen to your mother, because Mother knows best. |
