Purple Haze
Another autumn, another Farmers Fair

There’s something incredibly nostalgic about Dillsburg’s annual street fair. In my opinion, it’s not really the fun or anticipation of the coming events that make Farmers Fair so exciting to everyone in town, but the memories of past fairs that draw everyone to Baltimore Street for 2 days to share in our communal tradition.

As a writer I live on imagery, and when it comes to imagery, can any season beat fall? Scents of apple cider, deep-fried Oreos, earthy fallen leaves and the crisp air all create a reflective perfume of seasons past. I can already taste the samples of Lebanon Bologna and chocolate milk that are given out in the fire hall amid the aromas of the fresh fruits and vegetables that have been entered in their respective competitions. The little children dressed in their costumes, promenading down the street in Friday night’s parade, remind parents of when their grown children used to go out to collect candy, dressed as cartoon characters and fluffy animals.

All in all, the season of fall is for nostalgia, as well as the creation of new memories. Enjoy Farmers Fair and enjoy your fall images as we enter the season of holidays.
