Students in action

It’s beautiful outside, and with the wonderful spring weather comes a lot of student service. The Northern High School Key Club, a division of Kiwanis, is involved with a lot of great projects that bring students in touch with the community and those in need.
Senior student Emma LaFrance, an officer for the club, is heading a project to benefit Caitlin Smiles, a charity that gives craft kits to ill children. Emma and other members of the Key Club have been buying craft supplies and putting together kits after school for kindergarten to pre-teen age children to brighten their days during treatments and stays in the hospital.
Josie Fisher, another senior member and officer of the club, headed a project to make and sell peanut butter eggs the week before the Easter holiday in order to raise money for the Key Club’s sponsor child in India. The club pays money every year to provide him with school supplies, heath services and food. Even though few members of the club are experienced in cooking and candy making, the confections were delicious (it’s amazing what following a recipe and do) and raised a good amount of money for the sponsor child.
These are just a few of the projects that have been going on all year in the Key Club as well as other student organizations and the student council. No matter what age and experience level, every person has the ability to help the community and citizens next door or around the world. High school students are proving that every day. |
