Everyone needs a little support

Every year in May the Dillsburg Lions Club honors young achievers at Northern High School with awards and a dinner during a meeting. This past Monday, May 10, 2010, some select members of the Northern High School music department were honored along with their directors Jeremy Leidhecker and Laura Bissell.
Before the awards ceremony, retired superintendent Brian Small spoke about the Polar Bear Foundation and its importance to the students and community. This foundation is relatively new, but it is already doing some great things for the students of Northern High School, such as providing assistance with tuition so that students can attend the Capitol Area School for the Arts and raising money in order to refurbish the fitness and training room at the high school. So far, the Polar Bear Foundation has raised $300,000 and hopes to make that total rise to $1,000,000 through community support to greater enrich and support the school district.
It is through efforts such as these that make Dillsburg and the surrounding community a wonderful place to grow up. The arts department at the high school has a wonderful support system; while other school districts are cutting areas of the curriculum such as music and arts classes, Northern is thriving with three branches to the music department, band, chorus, orchestra and many classes in the visual arts. Community involvement by organizations such as the Dillsburg Lions Club make the Northern York County School District something amazing in central Pennsylvania, for while other schools are struggling in a tough economy, Northern is thriving. Thank you for all the support you give the schools for you are financing the future. |
