Students dress up for a night at the Winter Gala

_____On Saturday night, February 12, Northern High School held its first ever Winter Gala, a semi-formal dance that was organized entirely by the cheerleaders. It was felt by some of the students that there was too much of a gap between homecoming in the fall and prom in the spring, and some wanted more opportunities to dress up and go out for a night with that certain someone, especially around Valentine’s Day. The cheerleaders spent countless time to make the dance special, and the turnout was a success with 120 preordered tickets and many more that were sold at the door.
_____The dance was held in the high school cafeteria, and the crowning and decorations remained true to the theme of winter. The cheerleading team cut out paper stars and snowflakes, including some elaborate, three-dimensional snowflakes that were a favorite among some students. _____Blue and white balloons also adorned the cafeteria, and the dance floor was partially lit by icicle Christmas lights. A snow queen and king were crowned, and the court was Emily Noll (freshman), Marcy Walder (sophomore), Lydia Lynes (junior) and Jenna Smith (senior). The guys nominated for the crown were not present at the dance. Seniors voted Jenna Smith as the queen.
_____After counting the ticket money, the cheerleading team discovered that they had made about $1000. Pleased with the success and the good time that most people had, the cheerleaders plan to throw another Winter Gala next year. |
