Purple Haze
Secret Santa with Friends
By Amy Kimmel

December 24, 2015

The waiting is over and Christmas break is almost here! Why does it seem like teachers try to cram in every last test and project they can before the holiday?

My friends and I make the holiday extra special by exchanging names and being Secret Santas for each other. We leave each other small gifts and encouraging notes throughout December. We often ask a classmate to deliver the gifts for us to throw each other off track in guessing who is whose Secret Santa! Then, we hold a "reveal" party at my house to exchange one last larger present and find out who deserves our thanks! We wear our pajamas and each brings a Christmas snack. This year was bittersweet because after many years of doing the Secret Santa exchange, we won't be doing it next year. We'll all be off at different colleges and one of us will be in another country!

The Bear Singers will carol throughout the school on Wednesday, adding to the festive air as we close out the week early with a half day. I know it will be January 4 before we know it, but let's not think about that now!

Happy Holidays to each of you and don't forget to come downtown on December 31 to ring in the New Year with Mr. and Mrs. Pickle!
