Purple Haze Eternal Saturday

Well
we are officially halfway through the school year! Thursday marked the
beginning of the third marking period. Of course it was a bit late
after our two days off school and a two-hour delay to top it off! I
enjoyed my "eternal Saturday," having been completely snowed in for
almost all of the four days off school. Everyone agreed Wednesday
morning at school that the roads themselves were fine, but snowbanks
made for very narrow passes and blind corners.
Students have
been scrambling to get in their make-up work and anxious to see their
final grades. Good news for kids that are right on the edge of getting
their final tardy before detention (me) - with the new semester comes a
clean slate!
In case you're
wondering about midterms; Northern doesn't have them anymore (for the
most part). All classes have done away with midterms, other than
languages. Everything we've learned thus far in the year during
Spanish/French culminated in two days of testing last week.
In a sure sign
that graduation is nearing, the seniors were herded into the cafeteria
for a very brief meeting about ordering caps and gowns. Packets and
order forms were handed out as students were reminded to tell their
parents about the deadlines to order. So if you are the parent of a
senior and haven't heard anything about this, this is your reminder to
ask! Some students are choosing to wear the same cap and gowns as their
siblings, from previous years, but they will still need to order a
"2016" tassel. June will be here before we know it!
Enjoy your
week and take advantage of the snow! Go sledding (Messiah is a very
popular spot)! My Spanish teacher, Senora Peitropola, informed us that
it is completely socially acceptable to wear a helmet and let us know
that her kids will definitely be among those trying it out.
