Oh What a Beautiful Mornin’

For the last few months the cast of Oklahoma!, Northern’s high school musical, has been working hard at creating an exciting and professional production. The costumes have all been made or rented, the props organized, the lighting set and now there’s only one thing left: an audience.

Every year, a week before the performances, the cast holds a character breakfast where cast members walk around in their costumes while guests, mostly young children and their families, enjoy breakfast, and then the children create themed crafts. This year the Wild West Breakfast included a western photo opportunity scene and three crafts, all simple and fun with a cowboy theme. While the breakfast is a lot of fun for those who attend as well as the cast, this year there was some fear among the organizers that it would be a slow morning. Not many tickets were sold ahead of time, and, with the loss of a school day on Friday due to snow and high winds, those who would attend were confused about whether or not the breakfast would be held. However, the breakfast was held and we were blessed with a large turn-out. The morning was worthwhile to the community as well as the cast.

While many tickets have already been sold for each performance date (Friday, Saturday and Sunday, March 5, 6 and 7), everyone involved with Oklahoma! would love to perform to a full house. If you haven’t already planned to attend Northern’s high school musical this year, please consider giving it a thought. About 80 students from those on stage, in the pit orchestra, back stage or in the tech booth are involved with keeping the production running smoothly, as well as four directors who have put in incredible amounts of time since the fall getting ready for this weekend. Hopefully you will all enjoy Oklahoma! and get a taste of culture and the wild west in Dillsburg.
