Its going to be a white President's day

Feburary 11, 2016

The snow managed to both shorten and lengthen school this week! Although we were supposed to have off this Friday, making for a four-day weekend, conveniently forming around Valentine's day, Abe Lincoln's birthday and President's day, we will instead be using it as one of our snow make-up days. We were however lucky enough to have a shortened day Tuesday, with dismissal at noon, followed by a two-hour delay Wednesday morning.

Tuesday afternoon, the aroma of fried donuts wafted around the school, reminding us of "Fat Tuesday" or "Fasnacht Day," and leaving those of us not in a culinary class wishing we were. In accordance with Catholic and Pennsylvania Dutch tradition, it's the day observed annually on the Tuesday before Ash Wednesday, when indulgent treats are eaten before the start of Lent. This week Key Club was selling Hershey's Hugs and Kisses to be delivered Friday during homeroom from friends or secret admirers. All proceeds will go towards Four Diamonds. FFA is stepping into the Valentine's day scene by selling single roses or bouquets during lunches with proceeds also to benefit Four Diamonds.

Thursday during lunch periods, students participate in "tape the teacher." One dollar will buy a strip of duct tape students will use to tape a teacher to the wall. The lunch period raising the most money will be rewarded with a special treat. Mr. Conway, Mrs. Lowe, Mr. Gladfelter and Se–orita Brubaker are among the teachers to be taped. The event is sponsored by Four Diamonds and all money raised will go toward the grand total revealed at the end of upcoming Polar Thon.

During English classes, senior students signed off on their names that will be printed on our diplomas. Once winter is over, graduation will be here before we know it!
