Former vice-president reflects on his tenure at Citizens Bank

Citizens Bank on the Dillsburg square closed permanently January 14, ending 134 years of banking at that location. According to Eslinger's Local History of Dillsburg, Pa., a deposit bank was established in 1873; the first bank president was William E. Miller, John N. Logan was first cashier. In 1878, the bank reorganized and was renamed Dillsburg National Bank. In 1891, a three-story brick structure with an iron front was built at the current location. Sam Stone had a long career as vice president and branch manager of the bank. He worked at the downtown location from 1966 to 1990. Stone says his best years at the bank was in the 1970s and 1980s, when Dillsburg was growing, because the bank made many mortgages for the new houses being built. He noted they had long time employees, some working 25 to 30 years.
