Construction crews work to replace utility poles on South Baltimore Street last Thursday.
Last week, drivers and pedestrians along Baltimore Street have noticed utility workers in bucket trucks replace aging electric lines and poles. The upgrades utilize more durable, thicker lines with a greater capacity, according to Kevin Eck, First Energy Corporation representative to Dillsburg Borough. As part of the project, FirstEnergy of Pennsylvania is replacing about 30 wooden utility poles that have been inspected and found to be nearing the end of their life span, according to MetEd spokesman Todd Meyers. The project began in early January, and contractors are working from the substation north toward the Met-Ed building on North Baltimore Street, he said. Meyers said the project is expected to be completed sometime in April.
