Firefighters work to put out a brush fire that spread to a wooded area in the 100-block of Blue Hill School Road, Washington Township Saturday afternoon. Additional fire companies were called to prevent the fire from spreading to a nearby home. EMS and fire police were also on the scene.
A report Wellsville Fire Company showed that volunteer time for the company totaled 11,461 hours. Using the national average of $31.30 per hour for volunteers, to replace that work with paid workers would cost $397,060. The report was created by Jen Hockensmith and was reported at the March 13 Warrington Township supervisors' meeting. The fire company also reported they have a fire truck loan of $689,415 at 6.33% interest.
