A warm sunny day greeted area residents Monday on Memorial Day as they lined the parade route and assembled at the Dillsburg Cemetery to honor veterans who gave the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom. At 11 a.m., Scouting America Troops, holding the colors, led the annual parade sponsored by the Dillsburg VFW South Mountain Post 6771 followed by motorcyclists from the American Legion Riders of Post 26. The group formed at the VFW grounds on Franklin Street. Scouts participating included Cub Scout Pack 39, Troop 38 (boys), Troop 1153 (girls) and Troop 203 (boys). As the parade made its way down South Baltimore Street, Post Commander Chris Wyatt and Trustee Ken Butler stopped at the Community Hall to raise the American flag and place a wreath at the war memorial. Scouts with fistfuls of American flags walked the parade route, handing them out to spectators, creating a festive atmosphere.
